Glens Falls mail carrier sentenced for stealing mail
News

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A letter carrier who delivered mail in the Glens Falls area has been sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay $557 in restitution for stealing items from mail along his route.

U.S. Attorney Richard Hartunian says 53-year-old Douglas Harrington of Glens Falls was a postal employee for more than 30 years. Harrington pleaded guilty to felony mail theft in September and was sentenced in federal court in Albany on Wednesday.

The thefts included prescription drugs, money, and collectible baseball cards.

Harrington's attorney, Daniel Stewart, wrote a memo to the judge saying the thefts were a result of drug and alcohol addiction.

Harrington no longer works for the Postal Service.
