ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A repeat sex offender has been sentenced to 16 years and 3 months in prison after admitting he met a 14-year-old girl through an online dating site and brought her from Vermont to his home in Queensbury for sex.
Andrew Benway of Queensbury pleaded guilty last year in U.S. District Court to felony charges of interstate transportation of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity.
He was a level 1 sex offender at the time of his arrest after a prior conviction related to sex with another 14-year-old girl. He was arrested in March 2011 after the latest victim was reported missing from her home in Hartford, Vt.
Benway faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison.
