"Spring and summer are the perfect times to take our Babysitter's Training, we are scheduling several dates between now and the fall," said Caroline Boardman, Communications Director for ARCNENY in a statement. "This course not only provides kids with an opportunity to become responsible caregivers, but more importantly, it prepares them to be good leaders, role models and budding entrepreneurs."

All training courses will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include a lunch break. Students should dress in comfortable clothing and bring a pen or pencil and a lunch.

Warren County Sheriff's Office to hold Operation Safe Child event

The Warren County’s Sheriff’s Office will be conducting an “Operation Safe Child” fingerprinting event on Sunday, April 15 beginning at 10a.

Statistics show that nearly 34 percent of parents in the United States do not know their child’s exact height, weight and eye color.

At this event parents and guardians can opt to have their child’s photograph and information gathered into a digital database stored at the Division of Criminal Justice Services.

SAFE CHILD cards contain a child’s name, biographical information, such as their date of birth, gender, height, weight, and hair and eye color, and a fingerprint image of both index fingers.

This card could prove instrumental to authorities when a child is reported missing.

The card takes less than two minutes to make and can be easily stored in a wallet or pocketbook.

The event will take place at the Warren County Sheriff’s Office Training Center at 1400 State Route 9 until 5p.

Third graders nab top spot in reading contest

Third graders nab top spot in reading contest

A team of six third graders grabbed the top spot at a quiz show-type event that took place at SUNY Adirondack.

They were led by Captain Luke Pelchar and coached by Lake George High School librarian Sarah Olsen. The team outdid Hudson Falls and Queensbury.

“They must have went through 30 rounds of questions. I think next year, we will have to have some tougher books,” said Bridget Crossman, the librarian at the Elementary School. “No one got any questions wrong. The kids just kept answering every thing correctly. All the groups did an amazing job.”

Students had to read a list of 10 books in four months to be eligible for a team. The students stayed after school to discuss the book with their coach and during the competition students were asked questions about the books like “So You Want to be President?” by Judith St. George, “Because of Winn Dixie” by Kate DiCamillo and “War Horse” by Michael Morpurgo.
