Mental Health Awareness Walk to be May 19

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the Depression Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) Saratoga County will be having its 2nd Annual Mental Health Awareness Walk on May 19 at the Saratoga Spa State Park.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the walk will start at 11 a.m. The cost of the walk will be $20 and when people register they will receive a free t-shirt.

According to DBSA Saratoga County, funds from the walk will go towards affordable training opportunities, informational pamphlets, walk expenses, increased public awareness, advocacy for mental health and special speakers for groups. Centurion New York to take place between June 22 & 24

Centurion New York to take place between June 22 & 24

Nonprofit organizaions will partner together with Centurion Cycling for the Centurion New York in Lake George. The event will take place in Lake George between June 22 and June 22 and organizations are recruiting riders to join their efforts.

Centurion New York is a full weekend of cycling events geared toward cyclists of all abilities. Centurion New York Events are: C100, C50, C25, Kid’s Ride, Hill Climb. In 2011, more than $250,000 was raised for charity at Centurion Cycling events.

This year's partner organizations are:

·         Double H Ranch

Local athletes represent NYS at Alpine Skiing Eastern National Championships

Local athletes represent NYS at Alpine Skiing Eastern National Championships

Over the weekend, local high school students qualified and represented New York State at the Alpine Skiing Eastern National Championships.

The championships were held in Attitash, N.H. in both team and individual score. The ladies team score was fourth overall and the mens score was third overall.

The NYSPHSAA Section II Boys Basketball Championship rescheduled for 4 p.m.

The NYSPHSAA Section II Boys Basketball Championship rescheduled for 4 p.m.

The NYSPHSAA Section II Boys Basketball Championship that was originally scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 29 and was rescheduled for Thursday, March 1 has been rescheduled again for Friday.

Games will be at 5, 6:30 and 8 p.m. and all tickets for the rescheduled games will be honored. Tickets are available by clicking here, by calling 855.GFCC.TIX or at the Civic Center Box Office.

Doors will open at 4 p.m.

Johnstown volleyball player recognized in article

A Johnstown High School volleyball player has been recognized by PrepVolleyball.com

The website posted an article by writer John Tawa naming the “2011 Frosh 59: The Best Varsity-Playing Freshman in America.” Johnstown’s Annie Stock was recognized as one of the 59 players.

"Annie's talents on the court are far beyond her age. Annie's passion and hard work make her a standout player and teammate. There are few athletes that have the talent, positive attitude and selflessness Annie has,” said Head Coach Heather McGuire in the article.

Stock is a member of the Class B All-State Tournament Team in Glens Falls Nov. 19-20, 2011 and her efforts during the Lady Bills 2011 season earned her honors. Click here to learn more about PrepVolleyball.com

Skiers can participate in events at Hickory Telemark Festival

The 5th Annual Hickory Telemark Festival has been postponed until Saturday, March 17 at the Hickory Ski Center in Warrensburg.

The festival will boast a variety of events including, the Tour De Trees, free demos of telemark equipment and clinics to help fine tune skills or help beginners learn.

New to this year’s festival is the “Tele Skin Challenge Race.” People can sign up for the new event and others will be able to watch the race from the deck at the lodge.

After the days’ events, there will be an after ski party featuring a local brew, a dinner special and prize giveaways. Discount lodging is close by.

Big Brothers Big Sisters chosen as Charity of Choice

CDPHP employees will begin their 2012 Charity of Choice campaign with an employee night and check presentation on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Albany Devils hockey game.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has been selected as this year’s Charity of Choice and the company is challenging CDPHP employees to become either a Big Brother or Big Sister.

Being the charity of choice, a yearlong fundraising campaign will be launched including opportunities for employees to give back to the community. At this year’s kick-off event, the Albany Devils will take on the Adirondack Phantoms at the Times Union Center. The check presentation before the game will start at 4:45 p.m.
